Abstract | Psychological wellbeing presents a fundamental issue of the presentday psychology, and the ongoing socio-economic transformations that largely define the mainstreaming of personal development, has stirred this interest. The concept of psychological wellbeing is synonymous with a feeling of being happy and life satisfaction. The current situation, when a person is subject to active social, political and economic influences, changing requirements of professional milieu, transformations of value system, has emphasized research on psychological wellbeing. The question, whether there is a linkage between psychological wellbeing and value orientations, rests on the idea that value-and-meaning foundations of personality form the basis of wellbeing. In the study, the author applied psychodiagnostic techniques, namely, the Psychological Wellbeing Scale by C. Ryff and the Rokeach Value Survey. The sample involved adult males and females aged 25 to 35 (n = 184), residents of mega cities (Moscow and St.-Petersburg) equalized by socio-demographic characteristics. On the basis of the testing data, the author produced the correlation analysis. It resulted in identifying statistically significant interrelations between the general level of psychological wellbeing, its separate components and value orientations. We also gave proper attention to considering the linkage of personal wellbeing and terminal and instrumental values. The findings proved that psychological wellbeing is related to certain values. High wellbeing determines the value of freedom, wisdom, thrust for knowledge, and no criticism of other’s weaknesses. |
