Abstract

The paper presents a comprehensive psychological analysis of basic professional and personal qualities in students specialized in Design and Architecture. The instruction in higher education institutions aims to sustainably develop qualities necessary for further successful professional adjustment and activity. That is why it is relevant to identify and assess the traits of students relating to creative work. The authors revealed basic personal and professional qualities of the majors involved in the study and analyzed the psychological characteristics of college-age and professional creative work. The study into the development of personal and professional qualities in Design, Architecture, and Journalism students exploited 6 standardized techniques and statistical data processing via the Mann–Whitney U-Test. The comparative analysis resulted in revealing similar personal and professional characteristics in students in different fields of study. The authors detected differences in the level and distribution of these qualities both for total and separate indicators. Based on the obtained data, the authors offered recommendations centered on interventions into Design, Architecture, and Journalism training courses to add a larger share of autonomy and creative component in their training.

Keywords personal and professional qualities, college age, creativity, professional creative activity, design, architecture, journalism.
